Keywords For Your Ebay Sale



The title is the most important part of your auction. You only have 80 characters to get a potential customer to click through to your auction ad. After all, the default search on EBay only searches the titles.

If you are selling a camcorder, you obviously want to start with the manufacturer’s name, product name, and model number. Also make sure to include what the item is, a camcorder, because a lot of people won’t be searching for a specific model.

After you have the basics, you may want to add variations of the words you already have. For example, when I was selling my CB750 package, I would include both “CB750” and “CB 750”, just in case. With the low-carb recipe book, I included “low-carb”, “diet”, and “Atkins.”

After all of the basic words are there, the words that people will actually be typing into EBay’s search engine, you can add words that will make people click on your title first. I don’t mean words like “WOW” and “LOOK.” These words and others like them are overused and practically useless.

Never abbreviate words in your listing unless you are 100% sure that people will use the same terms to find your product. Be careful of misspellings. Do not push words together to save space. Do not spam the search engine in the title by using phrases such as “Hitachi not Panasonic.” And don’t use asterisks and symbols to decorate your listing if there are other words you can still add to your title to help people find your auction.

In the description, you have almost unlimited space to advertise your wares. You can fill it up with words that will bring you more hits from the EBay search engine, but gone are the days when you could just print a whole list of name in your description and get away with it. For example, ifyou’re selling a list of wholesale electronics suppliers, you just list every brand name and component in your description you can think of. Not any more. This is spamming.

But if you can write a description of your product that includes every possible word that a person interested in your product would search for and still manage to create natural sounding paragraphs, then you have a winner.
